September "Articles of Interest:" Thiel Fellowship, Fred Rogers' Neighborhood; Phone Booth as Library; Return to Wagah Border

Sunday, 23 September 2012

Greetings Students, Parents, Friends, & Readers:

Here is September’s edition of “Articles of Interest” for your perusal, contemplation, and consideration.

Thiel Fellowship: an intriguing example of a benefactor and mentor empowering his resources; alternative to college while supporting research of scientific and technical innovation, with a generous stipend.

Continuing the spirit of Fred Rogers’ Neighborhood, Daniel Tiger returns as an animated series on PBS, red cardigan sweater and all!

The NYTimes provides a detailed account of the recent campus wranglings at University of Virginia in the article aptly titled, “How Not to Fire a President.”

Superman,Grab a Book: Two dwindling cultural icons (payphones & paperback books) unite in as could only happen in New York City.

al Jezeera reports exciting news about recently announced new visa agreements between India and Pakistan.

On a lighter note, from my visit to the renowned “lowering of the flags ceremony” at the Wagah Border in February, it is quite clear that the two countries have more familiarity than enmity.  Enjoy the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_PzMSw6jZo
